The History Behind L E B

L E B, standing proudly for Laura Ellen Breheny, represents more than just a name—it embodies a heartfelt legacy of passion, perseverance, and performance in the world of Irish sport horses.

Laura’s journey began with a dream: she launched the breeding program by competing in eventing and progressed all the way to representing Ireland at three European Championships. With her eyes set on the pinnacle of sport, she bought the very mare intended for the 2016 Olympic Games, planning to break, ride, and compete at that level. Tragically, Laura’s deteriorating health prevented her from realizing that dream, and she passed away before it could come to fruition.

Despite this profound loss, Laura’s vision endures through the horses bred under the L E B prefix. Her mother, Jo Breheny, has honored that vision by carrying forward the breeding program with grace, expertise, and heartfelt dedication.

Over the years, the L E B name has produced a succession of noteworthy sport horses that have delivered impressive results on the national and international stage. For example:

In the realm of dressage, LEB Hugo stands as another shining example. Bred by Jo in Waterford via embryo transfer from the mare Her Highness Willow (whom Jo personally selected as a foal in Germany), he has risen through levels to Prix St-Georges — a testament to careful breeding, excellent selection, and Jo’s skilled nurturing.

LEB Lias Jewel, bred by Jo in Waterford, earned a top ranking at the prestigious Kilguilkey International, placing 5th among the top Irish eventing horses in its class.

LEB Empress, bred by Jo, represented Ireland at the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Eventing Horses in Le Lion d’Angers (France). In one year she achieved a fantastic 5th place as a six year old, and competed again as a seven year old, further cementing the line’s competitive caliber.
